I've some questions to ask. So I'm a Dillon born in Co Westmeath Ireland and it's been a desire of mine since I was a small kid getting into wargaming to paint up some 15mm minis for the Dillon's Regiment of the French Irish Brigade of the 1740s – 1750s. I'm finally making preparations to start the project. I'm hoping to wargame them in the Jacobite Rebellion of the '45, as well as the War of Austrian Succession and the Seven Years War. I've never wargamed this period and am unfamiliar with both rules and minis manufacturers. I am aiming for 15mm as I've lots of terrain and buildings that cover this size. I'd like to know what are the most popular rules (I think I'd prefer a lite set to start) Any recommendations would be very welcome. Thanks in advance John Dillon |

I like Black Powder as it is pretty easy to game and moves fast My previous rule set was Age of Reason which I enjoyed but I like Black Powder better For 15mm I would defer to others – I have the Irish Brigade in 28mm using Front Rank Figs (well, mostly – I have Buckley, Clare, Roth and Lally with figs set aside for Dillon and Berwick) |

Hello Irish For the SYW I use 15mm Old Glory French infantry for the Dillon regiment. For the War of the Spanish Succession I use 15mm Roundway Miniatures. Home made rules for both periods. You can see them in action on the Wargamorium Blog if you look through under the different categories. Regards Link thewargamorium.wordpress.com |

@Frederick. I'll check up BP as your description is exactly what I'm looking for. 28mm would look great and suits my slowly deteriorating eyesight but I still think I'll go 15mm. Thanks for the info @Wargamorium great I'll look at old glory. I should have mentioned I live in AB Canada now so I'm not sure if there's a better mailing company for here. I'll also check out your home brew. Thanks again |

Beneath The Lily Banners : The War of the Three Kings, the 3rd edition of the BLB rules is due out any time now, and is specifically written around the Irish experience, and works well for the whole period. More info on the latest edition: link Will be in the Leauge of Augsburg shop sometime soon: link |

I like the Old Glory 15mm French as well. My 15mm 1745 project is all Old Glory with some other manufacturers mixed in for the Jacobites. I used to use Warfare in the Age of Reason when I first started off but have moved over to Maurice. |

Might be worth taking a look at the Eureka 18mm range: link They have a US distributor. The infantry mix well with Old Glory and the cavalry are much nicer models – Old Glory horses for SYW are riduculously small IMO. As for rules; Black Powder is a fun set, although perhaps a bit generic. I started wargaming 50 years ago playing " Charge", still my favourite set for SYW and there is an Osprey set called ( I think) "Honours of War" which has had good reviews. |
