Looking at Baccus 6mm, really like what i'm seeing except for the bayonets (IMHO they just ruin the figure). How easy would it be to snip them in half or just snip them off? Or am I over-reacting looking at the website enhanced photo?

They are pretty easy to snip off – but in my experience (and I have thousands of the little darlings) they look OK leaving them on

As Fred says, easy enough to remove if you prefer your figures without.

The thing to remember with 6mm, though, is that it is all about the look of lots and lots of figures on the table. You really don't notice things like overscale bayonets because it is all about the impression of MASS rather than the individual figures.

Much of the detail on Baccus is over-scale for just that reason.

Use the 3 foot rule. Put the figures 3 feet from you and then look at them and the details. Or you snip the bayonets off.

The old Baccus bayonets were horrible. I like the new sculpts.

You can snip them off easily enough. Snipping them in half is another matter.

Silver being a light colour helps disguise size of bayonet. They do need to be a bit thick for strength.

Hello GlacierMI!

Bayonets are a traditional weakness in a number of 6mm figures. Baccus redesigned their Napoleonic line a few years back and they reinforced the bayonets to help overcome that problem. Once painted up, mounted in units and looked at in a wargame you don't notice anything except perhaps the gleaming bayonets, which most wargamers find attractive.

So I would say its a good observation on your part, but also as you say an over-reaction from observing an enhanced photo.

Best regards,

Glenn

Funny, to me painting them silver would make them stand out. To make them look smaller, I would paint them a dark gun metal, then highlight an edge in a brighter metal.

The Baccus bayonets were one of the reasons I eventually went with Adler 6mm, although I always ordered more strips than I needed because some arrived with the bayonets broken off.

Close up the Baccus bayonets don't look too good, but I imagine all 6mm miniatures might not appear as aesthetically pleasing as one would like close up. 6mm miniatures look much better from a distance and in mass formations.

I would however, suggest painting the bayonets rather than cutting them off.
