Anybody here go? I enjoyed playing Skirmish Sangin demo and the now annual simultaneous Battlefront extravaganza.

I picked up Twilight 2000 2nd Edition and Phoenix Command at the 2nd hand section for $10 USD a piece! All complete. Was specifically hunting for T2000 as well since I'd played it as a teen but never owned a copy.

Cancon is the same age as me! Been going since the early '90s when it was a Copland College in Melba.

I remember the Bruce CIT era as well.

Not sure where it was held in the late '70s/'80s. Jacky Chan was probably around at it back then? Anyone know?

I was there -- its 5 years since my last visit. The addition of the extra pavilion really helped.

I was impressed with the size. Its been many years since I went to a HMGS con, but I think that Cancon is now about the size of Cold Wars or Fall In -- except for the dealer area, which was pretty good, but still missing a bunch of suppliers.

Yeah it was the biggest ever. Agree on the dealer area, the same size as always, pretty boring. I was shocked at how quickly the second hand pavillion got cleaned out. I guess nostalgia is kicking in and resellers are seeing those prices on ebay too.

Cancon was always pretty large though. I remember LARP groups running around the grounds of Copland College while demo games in the entrance ran (remember playing a GREAT game of Leading Edge Aliens in the '90s).

Then you had the whole school hall full of tournaments and demos, plus those ASL guys, there were demo games in there, played some great World War two assaults then, remember going directly up a giant hill in the face of dug in Germans. No idea what rule set but FUN.

Then upstairs in the classrooms you had anime screenings and a really early LAN with a projector simulating the bridge of the Starship Enterprise. Then more classrooms filled with RPG groups.

I guess what's taken over these days is wife friendly Euro board games, which is 1/3rd of the floor area.

I miss the old days, seemed a lot more diverse, I guess the internet ruined everything as usual.

I was there too, had a great time as always. Seemed to me that everything was similar to the 39th, except for the new Pavilion. If the Euro games hadn't arrived four or five years ago I doubt that it would even fill two of the halls, never mind the three.

Roll on Cancon 41

The new second hand pavilion was only a 1/4 of the new building. There were a lot of extra gaming tables as well.

Anyone remember 10-15 years ago they used to fill a whole hall at EPIC with LAN gamers? That was hilarious, the amount of cabling running everywhere with everyone BYOing there own gear.

There was a 2nd hand pavilion?

I remember the LAN gaming!
