Had a quick fun playtest of Deus Vult at Castle Riley home of the Yarkshire Gamer. Initial thoughts and pictures of the lovely figures now on the blog. gapagnw.blogspot.co.uk

Interesting rules – thanks for posting. I got them when they came out but never did get around to playing. Couldn't quite get my head around the fact that only the attacker strikes but you found this worked okay? Cheers Nick |

Great to see these rules being played. We use them and I agree with everything that you said in your blog post. Interesting set of rules. |

It was a good game. Took a bit of time to get our heads around some of the rules as Roger said, but we will be having another go when we can fit it into Ken's schedule. If nothing else it prompted me into getting on with the European archers I've had for a while to support my poor knights. Steve |

I'm still not sure about the attacker only fights in melee, especially when they can get two attacks before reply if the activation goes right. However the basis of the game is good and I think the traits etc that we didn't play will add to the overall experience. A few more play tests to see if it needs the odd change. I was sceptical of the one side fights in each round of melee but it worked well enough when we tried it. It makes activation and initiative far more important. It allows Saracen light cavalry to inflict some pain on the Christian Knights if you get it right. So if you get to fire at some Knights, then go first next turn and charge them you are likely even with light cavalry to cause some damage. You can end up where you go last and charge a unit, inflicting casualties and then get lucky and go first next turn so you fight them twice before they fight back. That could be frustrating for the person on the recieving end but them needs to become one of the things you consider when planning your moves. Updates to follow. |
