"The Spanish Civil War remains a deeply sensitive, difficult issue for many in the country today. A strongly divisive topic, addressing the civil war has been no easy task for Spanish cinematography. These are some of the films which best capture the political, social and emotional upheavals of the wartime period…."

I have only seen "Land and Freedom" by Ken Loach. It was very well made and a good view of some of passions and sides of the SCW.

This is a good selection of films arround the SCW. I personally enjoy the most 'La lengua de las mariosas' (personal taste, of course). Must add another one: 'La vaquilla', witch is one of my preferred war-films ;-)

For those interested in films on the US volunteers I would suggest starting with "The Good Fight." It is an excellent documentary and is available on You Tube.

I recall a very good documentary "Mourir a Madrid" with an English voice-over. I think it was nominated for an Oscar for best documentary film in the early 60's. Pretty sure it is available on YouTube and well worth a watch – a more balanced account than some!

There was a film from the 60's or 70's, in color, and there is a battle with a group wearing red shirts fighting Moroccan regulars. And, the name escapes me…
