If Games Workshop decided to introduce a new line of Space Dwarves, would you buy them? |
The Beast Rampant | 18 Jan 2018 2:10 p.m. PST |
I think I would be morally obligated to buy at least $25,000 USD worth, as much as I have groused over it for thirty years. |
Hades wolf | 18 Jan 2018 2:31 p.m. PST |
Yep as long as there was not too many skullz |
15mm and 28mm Fanatik | 18 Jan 2018 2:40 p.m. PST |
Nope. I never gave a squat to Space Dwarves to begin with. My top five 40K races are: Imperium of Man (Adeptus Astartes, Adepta Sororitas and Astra Militarum) Eldar or Aeldari Tau Chaos Space Marines (Undivided and Khorne only) Tyrannids |
Pictors Studio | 18 Jan 2018 2:42 p.m. PST |
Yeah, I've never been all that keen on squats. If you really want them, you could use the Kharadron Overlord figures as squats probably. The rules for 40K and AoS are so close now that you could probably easily make them work. |
Bashytubits | 18 Jan 2018 2:45 p.m. PST |
No, I really like the hasslefree space dwarves though, tons of character. |
DisasterWargamer | 18 Jan 2018 2:50 p.m. PST |
Isn't Space Dwarves copyrighted somewhere????? But no I wouldnt |

ZULUPAUL | 18 Jan 2018 3:16 p.m. PST |
No because they will have really fouled them up from the originals. |

I'm with Wackmole and Beast Rampant. My griping has created an obligation. Mind you, if the new figures are not compatible with the old ones, I'm off the hook. My tolerance for scale creep is VERY limited. Should note that I'm not a 40K/GW player as such. I keep some armies around for SF skirmish, and Squats serve very well at the ponderous end. |
Insomniac | 18 Jan 2018 3:23 p.m. PST |
I am a Squat fan… so it would depend on how they were brought back. If they were the same as they were in the 80's and 90's then I doubt if I would buy new ones. If they were updated, with their own vehicles and a more uniform look to them, it would depend on the style. I'd like to see updated Squats with decent equipment and a bit of 'direction'… the old ones were a mix and match army that seemed to be a collection of ideas with no real coherence… and the 'Harley-esque' bikes were a joke. |

I have a complete Epic scale Squat Force now … |
nudspinespittle | 18 Jan 2018 3:55 p.m. PST |
Yes, if they do just as good a job as they did with bringing back Genestealer Cultists. |

I think those who clamor for the return of Squats are relatively few but passionately vocal, which makes the demand appear greater than it actually is. Ex-GW employees working for Mantic Games already brought the Squats back in the form of "Forge Fathers" for their Warpath miniature game but somehow I don't think they're selling like hot cakes. |
Pontifex | 18 Jan 2018 4:57 p.m. PST |
I keep buying "Squats" in the form of the ones mentioned above – the Grymn from Hasslefree, the Forge Fathers from Mantic, and several other collected sources. Speaking as someone else who had a Squat force back for 2nd edition 40K, and a very large one for Epic/6mm, I think we can't neglect that what we REALLY want isn't just minis – we want to be able to look a GW rep in the eye and say, "TOLD you!" Uncle Pontifex reminds you that GW decided that biker dwarves with huge guns are officially, "meh", but sadomasochistic elves in gimp suits are A-OK! |
Allen57 | 18 Jan 2018 5:03 p.m. PST |
No. My SF gaming never included 40K and is done in 3 and 6mm . I do have 6mm 40k from all the 40k races, including squats, which I use with other rules. |
Leadjunky | 18 Jan 2018 5:45 p.m. PST |
Doesn't Mantic already have them? |
Uesugi Kenshin | 18 Jan 2018 5:52 p.m. PST |
No but I only play 30k right now anyway. I have nothing against them. There are just several 40k armies I'd collect before them. |
The Beast Rampant | 18 Jan 2018 6:23 p.m. PST |
I am going out on a limb as assuming the hypothetical New Squats (which would 99.786% likely not be called "squats" the next time around) would be well thought-out and all cool-looking. Yes, if they do just as good a job as they did with bringing back Genestealer Cultists. Damn skippy! I think those who clamor for the return of Squats are relatively few but passionately vocal, which makes the demand appear greater than it actually is. I think its readily apparent that it is very much a minority, but one as vocal as it gets. I'm iffy on Mantic's stuff, and feel I was burned by the abyssal quality of their plastics, so simply won't fool with them. Ex-GW employees working for Mantic Games already brought the Squats back in the form of "Forge Fathers" for their Warpath miniature game but somehow I don't think they're selling like hot cakes. I think we can't neglect that what we REALLY want isn't just minis – we want to be able to look a GW rep in the eye and say, "TOLD you!" If you allow Jimmy do the chores Johnny was supposed to do himself, Johnny doesn't learn anything. Johnny was really running with the wrong crowd for a while there, but I believe he's coming around. |

I would buy anything if they squatted the Tau |
Legion 4 | 20 Jan 2018 8:18 a.m. PST |
I like the Tau … they and the Eldar are the most "sci-fi" in the 40K universe. Yeah, we know, 40K is based on WHFB which is based on LotR. But as I always say it's a big galaxy and even bigger universe. So all aliens should be welcomed to the show. Some Aliens/ETs/NTIs, etc., have sensitive feelings too ! My Epic Tau forces are still awaiting paint at this time. |
The Beast Rampant | 20 Jan 2018 9:37 a.m. PST |
The Tau may be sci-fi, and neat-o, but they are about as 40K as Hello Kitty.
|
Legion 4 | 20 Jan 2018 4:21 p.m. PST |
Oh my !!!! Yeah, LotR didn't have anything like the Tau in any of the books … |

If they were something besides space dwarves like they were before. So boring. Make them the Demiurge. |
The H Man | 22 Jan 2018 5:06 a.m. PST |
Personally no. But I could see the sales may be good when GWs modern customers see this brand new modern, never before done army! They may work well as extra units for imperial armies as opposed to a full army, until sales prove good. But with my example above, they may work out! Give them marine shoulder pads and you will have a winner! New name? What about Warves? Or Mini Marines "…stop humping the giant lascannon". |
kallman | 22 Jan 2018 1:59 p.m. PST |
Yes, in a heart beat! Then the circle would be complete once more with the 40K universe I first started back in RT days. The opportunity is there to make them a distinctive faction with really cool minis and vehicles. |
