I've only just discovered that Tiger 1 turrets were asymmetrical and I'm wondering if anyone who has Tigers in 1/76 or 1/72 thinks it is noticeable? I gather it makes a difference of about 1.something mm to the turret width? |

My guess (based on the built 1/72 kit I have just looked at but cannot recall the maker) is that most companies pay it no mind, same as with the M-1 Abrams turret (is both asymmetric and off-set on the hull). Doesn't look "as good" if it is done realistically as it'll seem off to most people. |

FWIW I have looked at the turret of the Airfix Tiger and it seems to me that the asymmetric feature can be created with minimum hassle just by making a new turret-bottom disc and bending the right-hand turret half a bit more inwards at the front. So quite simple. As I'm making turret boxes and have several to do, I aim to cast them in resin. I could probably make one master turret and then copy it box and all. |
