The article doesn't say the Pirates actually READ those books. It says they tore them up to use as cannon wadding. grin

Ironically, Woodes Rogers, who commanded the voyage described in the book the fragments came from, subsequently was sent by the Crown to clean the pirates out of the Bahamas. Maybe using an account of his exploits for wadding was an expression of the pirates opinion of Rogers.
