Bases mounting only plastic figures: light and readily portable, with a relatively low risk of damage if dropped, but lacking in heft and liable to be easily knocked from their position.

Bases mounting only metal figures: heavy, with plenty of heft and therefore very stable on the tabletop, but prone to serious damage if dropped, and a whole metal army is a physical burden.

All my games are 'away' games; my armies always have to be transported to the field of battle – so total weight is a major consideration.

Does anyone else mix metal and plastic figures on the same base to achieve balance in terms of tabletop stability and portability?

All my Fuzzy stands are a mix of Perry metal and plastic, but not for the reasons you've outlined.

I mix them all the time.

Large numbers of large metal figures are a burden. I haven't yet succumbed to plastics, but if I did I would mount them on steel bases to give them more stability.

My 28mm are individually mounted, but I have a mixed regiment or so. That said, for ease of transport, I'd do as many plastics as possible. I've had very little trouble with them being knocked out of position.

My 28mm will all be plastics going forward (as much as possible anyways).

Not really an issue in 15mm…

I don't have any issues mixin' 'em up as long as they are about the same size- have mostly done this with my Medievals

Unless you are mixing Battlefront and PSC

Plastic 28'S on a textured MDF/washer/coin base are stable enough- especially if multi-based. I usually have the odd rock on a base too that adds a little weight although that isn't the reason for adding them.

I mix plastic and metal on my multiple bases. The issue for me is variety and not weight.

Ask me about weight in another decade and I may have something else to say.
