Is that a brass lock on the musket? Perhaps it's supposed to look tarnished, but I don't think I've ever seen one that color.

I checked the blow-up version of the pic and yeah, that does appear to be a brass or bronze lock. Obviously someone was unfamiliar with metallurgy or how flintlocks work.
