Did Arabs in North Africa ride camels into battle? I think the Tuareg and Beja did, but the Tuareg were definitely Bedouin, not Arab. I'm wondering about the Arab tribes, though. If so, what sort of weapons did they use? Spears, cutlasses, rifle, how were they used?
Trying to figure out if they can be used in Foreign Legion battles, or if the Arabs dismounted first and went into battle on foot.

My understanding, from reading various 19th French & British books, was that the camel was used in a strategic role. That is it got them to the battlefield and then the troops either fought on foot or on horseback.

Have a look at Small wars by Callwell. He basically says that they are rubbish in a battle

I think you mean the Tuaregs are Berbers (not Bedouins). I know that they ambushed the Flatters expedition mounted

You're right, Corporal, I had been thinking Berbers.

Both horses and camels were/are used. I never heard of them dismounting. If you didn't have a horse or a camel. Then I presume you marched or rather walked to the battle. But if you are going to have riders dismount then they should not require horse or camel holders.

There were several rather convincing charges by men mounted on camels in the film "Lawrence of Arabia."

Major Bloodnok06 Jan 2018 3:23 p.m. PST

Lawrence accidently shot his camel in the back of the head while firing his revolver during a "charge".

All North African tribes fought on camels, horses and foot. That is why there figures for them.
