Hello guys, I will start assembling the figures of this box, I wonder what is the most convenient or popular way to distribute the weapons among the Grenadiers and Paratroopers. The game booklet comes with suggestions but I would like to consider other options. I have to mention that I have the Grenadiers starting army box too still on sprues, so I have more flexibility with the Grenadiers. Merry Christmas ! |

Unless they've retooled them I'd avoid the Stgw 44 in the Grenadier set as it is way too big. Compare it to the Mg 42, it should be 3/4 the size but in the original release it was the same size. This makes the arms to go with it too long for the figure making them have the appearance of gorillas. |

I never measured the size of the StG44 in the grenadier set, but they look fine to my untrained eyes. Personally, I usually only use one squad of veterans armed (partially) with StG44's. Usually only four figures in an 8 man squad. I usually also use a couple of 6-8 man squads armed with rifles and one LMG, and sometimes a 4th squad armed mostly with SMG's. From an historical perspective you probably wouldn't have seen many StG44's in Normandy since they didn't go into full production until July. There were probably a few more during Market Garden and many more during the Bulge. Thankfully for the Allies, by the time the StG44 became available in mass quantities the quality of the German units that got them was at best quite mixed. |
