This experience prompted the Union Navy to design and build vessels capable of using this new weapon. One effort along this line resulted in a screw steam torpedo boat originally called Stromboli, but later called Spuyten Duyvil, after the Spuyten Duyvil area in New York City…."

Cool model!

Spuyten Duyvil was a treacherous tidal area which is now landfilled. If you pronounce it in a classic Colonial Dutch accent (aka Brooklyn accent!), you will discover that the Dutch name is cognate with English "Spitting Devil"!

An apt name for a torpedo boat =^,^=

Those aft davits don't seem to practical.
