For a what-if scenario I'm looking for information about the Belgian army of the mid 19th century (uniforms, organisation etc).

Anything around?

For uniform information checkUniforms of the World bybKnotel. It is popular and in a lot of libraries.
It is in black and while but very detailed descriptions.
480 pages not a tabletop book which there are several that use this title. Translated in about 1956-7

"World Uniforms and Battles: 1815- 1850" by Haythornthwaite and Chappell has 3 Belgian uniforms illustrated from the period of the war for independence (1830s).

"Handbook for Colonial Wargamers" by Ted Herbert has brief descriptions of Belgian uniforms in Africa for 1870s and later. Organizational information in some detail is provided, although I don't know if this is appropriate for units serving in Europe.

If circa 1891 is mid-century enough for you, I posted a full OOB for Belgium here:

To me, they look a lot like the French, aside from that unique tall, round hat.

Don't know if this will help much but most of the Belgian uniforms 1831- 1840 were actually based on the Dutch ones. Later on there was a strong French influence. A friend of mine is actually making a Belgian 1830+ army using quite a few of the Perry Carlist wars figures.

Sorry, I couln't react earlier.
Thanks for all the answers
Saber6; isn't GDWs Soldier's Companion a space game so do they have mid 19th century information?
Chris:1891 seems to late; I don't know if changes occured in the organisation

Nick, The mexican uniforms look great but don't know if they were worn in Europe (and the tall, round hat was only worn by the carbiniers if I'm not mistaken)
Willie; in 1830 they wore still shako's etc which would be changed afterwards
Lilian, thanks for the info

Will look into the Knotel book but as somebody has more info about the Belgian uniforms in the mid 19th century, please let me know
