There were some recent questions here on TMP about KOWH, so I thought I would mention that in the latest issue of Warning Order I reviewed Kings of War Historical, which is the first feature. Further on in the issue (pages 38-39) there is a battle report with Seleucids taking on the Undead, which were the only two 28mm armies that we had at the time! The fantasy and historical versions work great together so at least everyone can see what the game is about.

A team of historical players from Florida embarked on an extensive project of designing army lists for KoWH. Since I had worked on several army list books for the Fields of Glory system, they asked me to consider writing some for them. Since my wargaming is currently focused on researching scenarios and forming army lists, I said great.

A few months later and after I had produced dozens of lists, the group and I met at a Florida convention. One of my concerns was for example, you could field an Egyptian army fielding chariots NKE, pikemen from the Successor era and Saracen elite cavalry from the Crusades. That was ok with the powers that controlled KoWH. So the project was disbanded. Too fantasy for us.

Rudy, I don't understand why it would stop you? If your lists are good then players would use them for historical matchups. Who cares what the others do with them.

Good point.

Would LOVE to see what you came up with. I enjoy KoW and would like to use it for some ancients but wasn't very satisfied with the lists in their Historical supplement. I'll bounce you an email.

Really?

That's kind of funny……in a sad and pathetic sort of way. That's too bad, as the game mechanism is fun.

I read about that problem with the Egyptian army list rather a lot. A pity, maybe the other lists are better? And if not, mybe the rules would have hat a better reception without any lists at all?
