Assume you're going to a desert island. It has plenty of miniatures but you can only bring 14 paints and 8 small hand tools/brushes.

So what would they be? Here's what I think I'd want to have:

Dark Red – Vallejo Game Color Extra Opaque Heavy Red A/A/8/A
Red – Liquitex Soft Body Cadmium Red Medium
Dark Blue – Vallejo Game Color Extra Opaque Heavy Blue
Blue – Coat D' Arms Marine Blue
Dark Brown TBD
Brown TBD
Yellow – Vallejo Model Color 949 Light Yellow
Flesh – TBD
Black -TBD
Dark Green -TBD
Green – TBD
White – Vallejo Model Color 951 White
Silver – Vallejo Model Air Silver
Gold – Vallejo Model Air Gold

The non-metallic paints listed are discussed in my paint tests at texaswargamer.com . The metallics are Vallejo Model Air, which are the best I've ever used.

I'm open to suggestions for my TBD paints.

My tools would be a standard Xacto knife with blades, a pin vise with bits, W&N Series 7 size 2 and 0, a large flat brush, Xuron sprue clippers, a medium file, and a self healing cutting mat.

Xacto knife w/lots of No. 11 blades and a few others.

Sharpening stone since it seems unlikely to be able to reorder from a desert island.

Set of needle files.

Large flat file for leveling bases.

Small ball/peen hammer

Small anvil (need to form those brass rod spear points)

Round brushes: o, ooo, and 1

Flat brushes: 1/4" for dry- brushing

Acrylic paints:

Black, white, cadmium red medium, cadmium yellow, payne's gray, raw umber, burnt sienna, burnt umber, yellow ochre, hooker's green, Prussian blue, retarder (it probably gets warm on a desert island). Plenty of time on a desert island to mix paints.

Aerosol or brush- on acrylic varnish (I prefer satin finish)for final finish.

Almost forgot the metallics! Gold and silver-- mix with black or the browns to get varying shades of gunmetal and bronzes.

Can drones reach the island? If so, include an Amazon and Purolator account to my list.

Water, GPS, Satellite phone, flare gun, shelter, food, fire starting gear.

Five books (one of many unread histories on my shelf, historical fiction, survival manual, bible, set of wargame rules). Note pad and pens to write the story while waiting for rescue to sell for movie rights.

Then with the money stop working and game to my hearts content. wink

Thank you for your heroic work on the paint tests tbeard!

Umbers are not necessary- Raw or Burnt Sienna plus Black (usually Mars/Iron Oxide) gets ya there. In oil painting the Umbers have a special places as the manganese component acts as a dryer, but that is not so important in acrylics. Maybe cut out the Siennas too and just have Yellow Ochre and Venetian Red (plus Black they can shade down to black).

Pthalo green and Chrome Oxide Green for greens please.
