I think the difficulty here is the wargamer's expectation that units will be wiped out. Realistically is that actually what happened? SP2 is not really designed to give such results.

Having said that I am not that keen on SP2 for similar reasons. The last game I tried of SP2 I had two firng lines banging away at each other at effective musket range with no significant effect. Realistic it may be. Fun it isn't.
