Here in the UK we call them Nativity Plays and every primary school puts one on each Xmas. One of the best "gone bad" stories is of a BBC radio producer who moved from London to Yorkshire, and decided to try and impress the locals by getting his kids' Nativity Play broadcast live on local radio. He reckoned without the "gritty realism" of northern life. (Remember, this is being broadcast live, with no delay.) Scene: Joseph returns home from a day in the workshop to find Mary cradling baby Jesus. Joseph: "Ow do, Mary. How's baby Jesus been then?" Mary: "Hasn't stopped crying once?" Joseph: "What? Not once?" Mary: "No. E's been a reet little b_gg_r all day!" |
