Soon I will have the option of moving my armies from an average size room, to much, much bigger one: 5 m x 12 m (16 x 40 feet) ! But no tables, just the floor. What are the pros and cons of having battle on the floor, instead of on the table ? |

What are the pros and cons of having battle on the floor, instead of on the table ? The biggest cons are sore knees and back ache. None of us are getting any younger … |

You may be able to get around that…use a golf putter to push your minis around. You just need to be really careful not to step on your minis and terrain will be a problem. Your other option is to go big! Use 54mm minis and attach a piece of wire to the back of the base so you can pick them up without bending over. |

Knees and back are the worst, but you also have to allow for a certain amount of wastage. Castings will be stepped on, and unless you stick to soft plastic, not everything will be salvageable. You might want to consider folding tables down the road. |

I would not be able to play on the floor, my job often has me working on the floor ( baseboard for instance) and a hour doing that its all I can do to get up. Tables in large size are easy as plywood over saw horses |

Yes. Whatever you do, try and fit a table in. Even H G Wells advised against using the floor if you have an option. |

All good points. I found the biggest loss in moving to gaming on the floor is gaming buddies. Younger gamers may tolerate the floor a bunch of times, middle-aged ones a few times, but most older gamers and those who finally can't face stooping anymore will start responding to invitations with "sorry, I'm busy that day". - Ix |

My 6' 6" x 11' 6" table is partical/ plywood spanned over two tables |

Ditto knees and back. A full day of that will lay out even a young gamer. |

Yeah, I'm not quite 40 (dang, when did that happen?!?), but I can't get down onto the floor anymore. Back and knees tell me to do something else very quickly. In fact, I generally don't like how low most tables are. Sure, they might be a good height if you're sitting down, but they need to be about 8" higher if you are going to stand at them! |

Can you not have some folding tables that pack away around the edge of the room – I use three Ikea folding tables that folded up are only about 12" x 31" with a set of three drawers in each end – good for storing troops, dice, rulers, etc. They are called Norden Gateleg Tables and can be found at: link |

I suggest folding tables, or some plywood sheets and saw horses. If you must play on the floor, get some chairs to sit on, and maybe some of those gardening pads for the knees. |

HI the original post begs the question 'Why' no tables? If you mean you don't have a table, then build or buy one! |

Thank you all for your replies ! I plan to set up Leipzig 1813: The Battle of the Nations. I'm addicted to this battle :-( Have nice day ! |

Get plywood and sawhorses or get knee pads! <LOL> I played on carpet for years .. was so glad when my friend got a table. The pros are that you can play some very large battles. The cons are that the bayonets and bare feet do not go along ;) |
