"For me it is after finishing a book, comic, paging through a gaming manual past or present, after a movie or a long hike.

The best place to get motivation though is the players.

Right now I am running through a series of games that will eventually (hopefully) become connected. Then at the last gaming session the party tossed a curve ball my way.

They have accumulated some money like all D&D gamers do. After monthly expenses, replenishing sundries and buying any cosmetic items; they have little use for the remaining pile of coins. Well that is until the idea of starting a brewery is tossed out by the barbarian…."

For me?… when I saw a box I ought to buy (yes…moral obligation)…

I wish I could get some motivation INTO some potential players. What seems to motivate many lately is more for solitary or online computer games as opposed to pushing figs. Easier path? Biggest excuses jobs and kids take by up time.

My biggest motivation comes first from seeing wonderfully painted figs and game AARs here at TMP. Then reading a history book on a battle or something period.

Motivation arrives precisely at the moment my motivation for alternatives disappears.

I do like galleries of well painted troops though – on their own they won't necessarily motivate me, but they are pleasurable to behold.

(Sigh) The spirit is willing, but the flesh is still healing.

So, for now, I enjoy the hobby vicariously, through you guys.

Primary motivation is typically fuelled by a good read-- maybe finding an unusual historical conflict or some pretty uniforms.

But it can often be the result of another player's interest in a new period; passion is infectious.
