"War is one of humanity's constants. No matter how enlightened we become or how much our technology changes, we'll still spend our time killing one another. As such, it is inevitable that today's younger generation will experience war. The only question is when.

These 10 examples of war could well blow up within the next few years. Some are regional, some are global. Some are small, some are big. The only constant is how horrifying these conflicts could potentially be…."

"We Will Live To See?"

Well, the youngsters for sure. The South China Sea one seems inevitable:

The "Second Cultural Revolution" will be more like a re-tightening of the leash. Those with high "trust scores" will be allowed to continue enjoying their capitalist illusion.

Our own "optimism" (perhaps naïveté mixed with arrogance) about China's capabilities could be our undoing:

PS. In the meantime, we'll see a lot more Chinese Peacekeepers sent on "U.N. missions" to Africa, to make sure their investments are safe, and to secure their mariti "Silk Road":

"War is one of humanity's constants."

Or, "War. War War never changes". Or, "In the future, there is only war".

War, at least on the scale we've seen in the 20th Century, is a thing of the past. Due to advances in the sheer destructiveness and accuracy of modern weapons, both conventional and nuclear, wars are no longer undertaken unless a nation's very survival (i.e. it faces an "existential threat") is at stake.

In light of the current (and presumably future) generation's high living standards, sense of entitlement and inability to stomach even comparatively small losses relative to the wars of our forefathers, any future war would be short, swift and comparatively low in casualties.

Every war is a "war to end all wars," at least ones that are as costly and destructive as the last one.

I sure hope you are correct. I'm not saying you are wrong, I just hope you aren't.

28mm Fanatik: "wars are no longer undertaken unless a nation's very survival (i.e. it faces an "existential threat") is at stake."

Sometimes not even then.

Regardless how "enlightened" we as humans are(?). Or may become … We have not seen the last of war. They may be smaller but it seems they may last longer as it appears the 3d World, under developed countries, etc., fight best as the insurgent, guerilla, or even terrorist. Even when they take much high losses than the West/Euros/1st World…

I doubt we'll even see anything even close to WWII with numbers deployed and assets lost. Even the major wars that followed WWII on to today. Were much smaller, generally localized conflicts. And no matter how much the current bunch of insurgents/terrorists want to make this a "world war". These are again, very small and localized. Compared to anything in the past generally.

War/conflicts will never cease, but again only be on a smaller scale and scope. With smaller losses overall … in the long run. As we have seen in the this post WWII, late 20th and early 21st Centuries.

Well you certainly have more faith in humanity than I do.

PS. Remember when they called 1914-1918 the Great War? Well, that was until an even bigger one came along. Then they took to numbering them. :)

We'll just have to wait and see … But modern warfare may just be too expensive economically to go Big !
