"China's military sent fighter jets, bombers and surveillance aircraft to patrol the self-governed island of Taiwan on Monday. The "island encirclement patrol" took place after a senior Chinese diplomat threatened that Beijing would invade Taiwan if any U.S. warships made port visits there. Aircraft, including H-6K bombers, spy jets and Su-30 and J-11 fighter jets, were all part of the aerial mission in which the jets flew over the Miyako Strait in Japan's south and the Bashi Channel between Taiwan and the Philippines…" Main page link China is not helping the situation by making it very clear that their threats to invade are real …. If the U.S. strikes North Korea, China might figure they can take Taiwan while the U.S. is distracted. |

The US has enough resources to simultaneously deal with both N. Korea and China. It will mainly be an Air-Sea war where superior American training/readiness and technology should prevail. |

China doesn't have the sealift to take Taiwan by force. Yet. If China did start moving RoRo ferries and things down the coast to support an invasion of Formosa, I suspect that we'd see a couple US subs abruptly pop up for port visits. And honestly, China plays the long game. In 50 years, Taiwan will be absorbed into the Mainland's economy to the point that it cannot leave. However, that last statement goes out the window if Taiwan declares independence from China instead of declaring itself the legitimate government of China. Mainland will invade Formosa if Formosa declares independence, and the US will let it happen. |
