Howdy
I want to buy a New version of the classic Table (rod controlled) Hockey game that many of us had as a kids.
I've checked Ebay and found a company named "STIGA" that appears to be 'The Company' these days in manufacturing that type of game.
I'd be very interested in any INTEL any of you might have regarding this company's version, or any other new mfg. of Table Top Hockey games.
Thanks in advance for all who contribute.
Cheers!

Stiga is pretty much the leader in tabletop hockey. There's dealers on eBay that will allow you to pick the NHL teams included in the game. Fun as hell as long as you don't get too rough with I‎t. The industrial versions are like the SuperChexx arcade type games but they go for as much as $3,000 USD

You can also get a Carrom Dome Hockey for something around $600 USD – $800. USD It is the residential version of SuperChexx.

It might go by a different name now but search 'dome hockey' and you should come up with it.

I have a STIGA table hockey game -- very well designed, with 3D skaters, and you can pick your own NHL teams. They seem to be the go-to company for traditional rod-hockey games today (Coleco used to be the standard when I was a kid; played a hell of a LOT of rod-hockey back then).

Legends I went thru a similar thing as you about a year ago. I ended up getting the Stiga NHL version. So if you care about NHL then it's the must have.

However, things have changed since when we were kids. The playing surface is no longer sheet metal; it is kind of a plastic sheet. It has some issues but is mostly nice. There is a very live and active tournament scene for Stiga with events throughout the world. Tourneys tho usually use the international set which all players are left handed. NHL has both righties and lefties. Stiga also sells replacement parts in case you get some real brutes playing at your table.

FYI I just ordered an as far as I can tell Stiga clone from Walmart; it is made by an Asian company and I think may have sheet metal base like the old Colecos. And since it is only 20 bucks I ordered it (it was and may still be on clearance). I am gonna get it tomorrow so I can review it and let you know but I felt for 20 bucks let's roll the dice. It has 3D players but I think just generic no NHL or international teams like Stiga. It will be my table for children opponents and/or brutes. Sensible gentlemen will play at the Stiga table. = )

Thanks for the Intel. It does look like Stiga is the company
these days.
"dddd99"… are there quality differences in the Hockey Rink Boards depending on which game item you buy?
When I look at the Stiga site it looks like the only real difference is the color of the teams and a few minor bells & whistles.
I would probably go with the NHL version.
I agree with "Sultan Sevy", Coleco was the hockey game we played. Had the metal hockey players which worked just fine.
Quite durable as well for the amount of hours we put into it.
It looks like we'll give Stiga a try this year.

Skip,

Yeah there are sometimes some quality differences, but nothing too bad to overcome. A lot of tabletop hockey enthusiasts recommend something called Ailene's tack it glue to stick down any loose players or the thin plastic sheet which is now the ice and not the wooden board of coleco. Sometimes the plastic film can come up in some areas messing up puck trajectory so this Aileene's tack it can stick it down.

BTW Stiga players do have nice metal sticks.

So I picked up my new 20 dollar set tonight. Basically a Stiga clone. Rods are a little less smooth but I didn't treat them with lubricant yet. Players are all plastic, a little smaller, and no metal sticks. All in all definitely worth it for 20 bucks. It went up to 36 now tho; WD rod hockey on Walmart: link Would recommend as a second beater set for brutes or as a cheap set if you did not wanna go the Stiga route. Not bad at all.
