… (Uch¨± Senkan Yamato Ni-ichi-ky¨±-ky¨± / ÓîÖæ‘éÅž¥ä¥Þ¥È2199) … and two potentially huge projects in the making. "At the age of seven I was the proud owner of my first double sided pencil case, magnetic covers and all. On its cover graced a magnificent grey and red starship called the Yamato. Back then I had no idea that this cool looking space-faring battleship was from 'a seminal series in the history of anime, marking a turn towards more complex serious works'. Fast forward to 2017 and I found myself finally watching the anime albeit a modern remake of the original TV series. Let me just say I absolutely LOVE Space Battleship Yamato, and the remake is just spectacularly good. Waiting with bated breath for the Malaysian license for the new series (2202, aka Comet Empire) to hit Ebay (the Japanese blu-rays are not only horribly expensive, but also lack English subtitiles, so I understand…) Damon. |

I first was exposed to the Yamato franchise back in 1978 when Star Blazers was syndicated for American TV. I was enthralled and watched it religiously for the year or two that it was broadcast. It's funny how back then I thought it was a great attempt by Japan to cash-in on Star Wars, but not until years later did I find out that Space Battleship Yamato preceded Star Wars by three or four years. It also looks like Lucas borrowed a few things such as the Wave Motion Gun (on the Death Star), the dome-headed trash can robot, and the "Fascist" aesthetic of the antagonist forces. The blogger is right that 2199 is a fantastic remake. They've kept to the spirit of the original, even down to most of the music, but added excellent ending themes such as this one by KOKIA YouTube link |

The 2199 series is coming out on Funimation dubbed in English now and the dub isn't bad. I'm hoping that is a good sign for 2202. |

Loved 2199 and just got to see part of 2202. It's good but hasn't gotten far enough to draw me in like the first part. |

Dynaman8789 my friend has seen the 2199 dubbed episode and he agrees with you,but for myself I'll take the episodes in Japanese with English subtitles. I know 2202 hasn't got that yet but I can wait. Zinkala I too have seen and loved 2199 so far I've seen all the 2202 episodes so far and I really like them. |
