….The Globe That The Pentagon Cannot Track "The U. S. military has more than 44,000 troops across the globe that the Pentagon claims it cannot track, according to a recent report. "We are not at a point where we can give numbers other than those officially stated," said Army Col. Rob Manning, a Pentagon spokesman. The report — compiled by the Defense Manpower Data Center under the Office of the Secretary of Defense — shows more than 44,000 personnel in a category labeled "Unknown." Active-duty military personnel number slightly more than 1.3 million in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force, and hundreds of thousands more civilian personnel fall under Defense departments. That number does not include Reserve and National Guard formations that might be active at any particular time…." Main page link Amicalement Armand

What? Are they still getting their checks? :) Someone please find them quick, and then tell the "news" media where they are exactly and what they are doing there. The public simply cannot get by another second without knowing all those important details. Lol Dan |

They must be extremely covert --so much so, that WE don't even know who or where they are? Regards Russ Dunaway |

Paychecks are Direct Deposit, though it should be possible to track down where their last ATM withdrawal was. Usually takes a court order to get that, though. |

It sounds like the New Orleans police force before Katrina. Then the "missing" cops got discovered when the department tried to bill the feds thousands of emergency response overtime man-hours for them. Of course, they never existed or had died/left the force many years earlier. They only existed when it came time to get federal money and equipment. Dan |

One issues is that people are not static, but constantly on the move which may make tracking them difficult. Just think that at any given moment there may be over one million people traveling in the air. Think of the massive TDY (temporary duty) rotations which are constantly going on. At any given moment there may be hundreds, if not thousands, of military personnel in between assignments. I guess I'm saying there may be more than one reason for number discrepancies. |
