I see you are using 4 figs to a base. I'm familiar with GoL, and they say base 2 per base so that you can do open or closed order.
My club's AWI figs are 4 per base. How do you deal with the basing issue? Do you treat all formations as closed order?
Or do you have a house rule?

I don't worry about the number of figures on the base. If the stands are open we leave a small gap between bases in the unit. If they are closed then they are all together. If they are in skirmish we leave a base width between each.
