Does anyone know where I can find details of the platoon and squad organization on the PLA's Naval Infantry? I'm particularly interested in unit organization built around the ZBD-05 IFV. |

I've also been watching with interest, to see what replies are offered, but so far nuthin. Dan |

I've posted on other boards as well but the only response so far is that people want to know. I think I might have to try a different tack to get the information since Google and wargaming boards aren't working. |

Extrapolating from online PLA sources and here…. link Guessing on a typical tri-squad platoon, 3 ZBD-05's have a capacity for 30 troops allowing for 3 bodies in Platoon HQ…….reports from a joint Sino-Russian amphibious exercise tell of 14 ZBD-05's landing over 100 marines…..perhaps they deploy in 4 squad platoons with a 4 man hq? 3×4 squad platoons with support attachments from a company support platoon……heavier machine guns, mortars,ATGW and AA for example All speculation on my part but there is discussion of Designated Marksman Rifle and a SAW equivalent inclusions into the squad orbat, replacing a QBZ95 rifle and the QBB Light Support Weapon……..the roll out and issue may lead to several orbat variations within the Mech Brigades of the PLAN Marines…….. (I'm off to dig out my 1/72 Caesar Minis PLA figures!!) |

Specific to mech infantry units of the PLAGF (but assuming a desire to standardise similar formations equipped with similar types of vehicles) "Each mechanised infantry battalion has three mechanised infantry companies, each of three platoons with each company having 13 infantry fighting vehicles; four in each platoon and one headquarters vehicle." The above mentioned joint exercises state 14 vehicles in use……the battalion commander showing the flag perhaps? So the 9-man squad: Corporal with Type95 assault rifle & radio 6 x Rifle men with Type95's (1 is the 2 i/c with another radio) Gunner with RPG or PF98a launcher Gunner with QBB95 LSW or QJY88 LMG (SAW) Further options include a UGL (35mm) and swapping out a Type95 rifle for a QBU88 DMR….(perhaps an attached Type QJZ 89 12.7 mm heavy machine gun as in the photos!) The platoon of 4 squads leaves room for a 4-man hq within the vehicles allotted to transport. Vehicle crews are from the armoured battalion and not part of the infantry platoon. Thanks for the links guys. Thanks GAZ045; I think I'll use that to put together a best guess. Dan; You presume to think I get to my painting projects when I think about them. ;-) I had first found the one you shared on the Army Technology site and really like it for its appearance on the table but will probably go with the one that Lion in the Stars shared on my earlier thread. I just need to get my painting skills up to snuff. I think I'm going to build my PLA Marine "squads" with two fire teams of 2 rifle men, a grenadier, and a SAW, and a squad leader. That gives me a complement of 9 for each ZBD-05. I will build three squads with an Plt Cmdr, Plt Sgt, and a'runner.' This provides for 10 Marines in each ZBD-05. (this also means I need to only add one more ZBD-05 to my collection) Typically Marines of all nations travel a bit lighter than their land-based counter parts so I'll have the anti-tank team at company level. This all pretty generic but it should work for Force on Force. |

Good to go, one of the sites commented that the 120mm 'bazooka' was a company asset……looked to have 4 launchers, similar to the MG set up.I Where are you sourcing the vehicles from, if any? |
