Wasn't the eagle-bearer supposed to be an officer, with NCOs forming the escort?

Sereant -Major in the early years of the empire, certainly in 1805-1806 Believe it was changed around 1808, but not fully certain, then the flag escort of two veteran sergeant was also added. anyway a nice figure, but a bit static, only good for the parade ground.
