I've just posted a speedpainting tutorial at my website link I painted 27 models in about 3 minutes per model (including setup and tear down times). The models are 30+ year old GHQ West German models.

Without a doubt, they are wonderful paintjobs on an excellent product that after 30+ years, has no rival! (CinC a very close second, IMHO).

Great stuff, here. Thanks.

I was impressed until you mentioned 'airbrush', still, nicely painted.

Jarrovian – Yeah, there were times when I wondered if I had battered wife syndrome regarding my airbrush. They are expensive, cranky and require a lot of work to keep clean. That's why I include the time required to clean them in my tutorials. Even so, I estimate that they double or triple my speed (vs using a brush). The key is to use them on the things that they are best at. I think you could substitute spray cans (assuming you can get them in the right color). But with such tiny models, you have to be careful of clogging the fine details.

I gave up on Airbrushes in the 1970's, but I am currently reviewing my position. Just so expensive.

Jarrovian – There are some good options out there. Hobby Lobby in the US carries Iwata, which are highly regarded. I like the Grex of course, but it's pricey and isn't carried by Hobby Lobby. There is a very similar Iwata airbrush, which Hobby Lobby might carry. I like Hobby Lobby because it has a 40% off coupon nearly every week, which helps.

You'll also want a good compressor, which will run as much as the airbrush. I'd also go ahead and buy an extra needle and a spare nozzle (if it's particularly small on your airbrush). And of course, thinner for your paints, a can of lacquer thinner and an airbrush cleaning jar (Harbor Freight has a cheap one that works fine for 1/3 the cost you'll pay elsewhere).

Harbor Freight has very cheap airbrushes, but I don't know much about them. There are a number of YouTube videos on them, so you might check them out.

Find a good cleaning video on Youtube for the airbrush you buy.

Practice thinning paints (or stay with airbrush specific paints like Vallejo Model Air or Testor's Acryl). Then practice, practice. And clean obsessively after every session. Take your brush apart over and over again until you can put it back together like Forrest Gump. Oh and this guy is an airbrush nut – link .

For me airbrushes are like high maintenance, gorgeous women. A lot of trouble and aggravating most of the time. But when it's good, it's real good :)
