I enjoyed the background and battle report. Good to see that my wargame friends and I were not the only ones to buy and use the excellent Warplan 5/5 system when it came out 40= years ago!

Glad you enjoyed it Gonsalvo. Yep it really was a superb system.

Gonsolvo/Grymauch, how does the Warplan 5/5 compare to the empire Campaign System?

Aside from any rules, Warplan 5/5 uses a set of 30 5 inch by 5 inch geomorphic cards (actually, 60, because the "A" and "B" sides are different), plus 3 "Island Cards. The cards come with an Atlas describing each 1 inch grid box, which transaltes to a 5 foot by 5 foot area of tabletop for miniaure bnattles (or however you define it, could be larger or smaller depending especially on the size of the figures and units to be used with it. There are rules included, but I only sued the actual rules once. Thet worked OK, but is is easy to write your own rules for use with the system, as we did (and as Grymauch did). I have all of the cards and the Atlas (which includes the rules) scanned. It is long out of print. Just looking at the cards an Atlas is likely to give you a severe desire to do a campaign!

My set did not include the island cards Gonsalvo. I seem to recall it may have been an extra. The templates inside my box include provision for the islands and I always regret not buying them. I completely agree with you about giving you a severe desire to do a campaign!
