Wow ! Like a little piece of Stalingrad or Berlin ! |

Needs a couple of the unique pieces of either one, just to localize the table. Like that Children's Fountain in Stalingrad, or the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Same reason you have a few Cherry Trees on a Samurai gaming table. |

Impressive. Just a note -- for a more realistic look -- rubble also accumulates on the outside of buildings. |

Wow ! Like a little piece of Stalingrad or Berlin ! Is it wrong that I was thinking Detriot? |

How did you do the cobblestone streets effect? |

Beast, I was thinking Detroit too. :) Dan |

Hey Ya'll, I'm from Detroit, one thing would be different, okay a few things; More Trees!, lots of wrecked cars and spray-painted graffiti everywhere, but, aside from those details, you are right; The Big D |

Interesting color choice. You must like red bricks. |

Thanks to Armand/Tango01 for posting photos from my site. Its nice to see it attracting attention. @ Legion 4, Thanks. I have been collecting them exactly because I want to recreate "a little piece of Stalingrad or Berlin". @ Lion in the Stars, I have other urban features as well. But, as my post was about ruins specifically, I just focussed on those. You mentioned "that Children's Fountain in Stalingrad". I have the "Barmaley Fountain" and use it in games, for example … Crossfiregrad Battle Report @ Cantbeatdavy, The "cobblestone" effect is painted hardboard. Dead simple. I explain how to do that here, although since then I put some additional layers on the urban side of my board … My Wargaming Boards @ 28mm Fanatik, I originally thought i'd go for a sort of burnt out look i.e. black. But Stalingrad was built from brick and hence the city was a sort of pinkish colour due to the brick dust. After consulting some folk I went for brick and brick dust. Brick dust versus black Steven |

I have been collecting them exactly because I want to recreate "a little piece of Stalingrad or Berlin". Well you certainly achieved your objective ! As for Detroit, never been there and based on the media and comments here … don't want to go there ! |

Never argue with someone who games with a game clock! Especially a "Saitek Competition Pro Game Clock"!!! BTW: I have no real comment/opinion on that, I just thought it was incredibly cool in the linked picture :-) |

Very nice on that Crossfiregrad table/game(s)! |

@ LaserGrenadier You are right, "for a more realistic look -- rubble also accumulates on the outside of buildings." For that reason I have some rubble features that are designed to be placed next to buildings – on the sides or corners. Actually I have quite a lot of them and they are on table in the photos above. But they are far out numbered by other features so you might not be able to pick them out. Aside from that I'm always conscious my kit is for wargames and is not a diorama. The visual appeal is always secondary for me. I'm aiming for a comic book effect rather than photo realism. This is to provide ease of game play, clarity under the rules (in my case Crossfire), and ease of storage. This design decision is the reason, for example, that I don't craft my ruins with rubble permanently attached to the outside. All my ruins are square or rectangular and I have the external rubble as a separate feature. This works better under Crossfire, is easier to store (squares stack better), and gives me more choice when designing my scenarios. Rubble is significant in some games and not in others (so doesn't appear). One final point about ease of game play. I have a lot of intact buildings but I prefer playing with the ruins because it is easier to get the figures in and out during a game. Steven |
