Iran is getting ready to deploy warships to the western hemisphere. I thought today was Thanksgiving. Apparently it's Groundhog Day.

I wonder if the Iranian Navy declares stuff like this when they get bored and want to make headlines or something?

Apparently this is go number three!

2011, 2014, and now 2017. Maybe it's every three years???

The US Navy is off the coast of Iran. Why is Iran's returning the courtesy a problem?

Tgunner23 Nov 2017 8:19 p.m. PST

Who said it was a problem?

What it appears to be, to me anyway, is a goofy publicity stunt. "One of these days we're gonna!"

If they just did it then it wouldn't generate the headlines that they seem to enjoy.

To me it is huge so what.

It's not a problem, except for the Iranians. Their ships are small and short legged. Those crews are not going to enjoy that trip much.

To me it is huge so what.

Then why bring it up if it's nothing?

Caedite Eos24 Nov 2017 12:56 a.m. PST

I don't get what you mean. There'd be huge headlines if there was an Iranian ship sitting off the East coast. Plus it'd be a lot more reliable way of getting a nuke here than one of their rockets…

Tgunner24 Nov 2017 8:03 a.m. PST

Because I find the media's reaction rather amusing. It sort of feeds the troll IMO. I wonder if they have noticed the trend?

Why should it be huge headlines? At best it would be a frigate or two? Just a couple of light warships twiddling their thumbs off a huge coast. Probably with a ship or two shadowing them. Is that really a big deal?

Could a ship carry a nuke? Doubtful. I don't think they have the tech to load up on in a SSM. Loading a bomb and sailing it in a US harbor would be an act of national suicide whether or not the US responds.

Probably with a couple surface ships and at least one sub per Iranian ship shadowing them.

As long as it's not the idiots in the Revolutionary Guard, sure, guys, come for a visit.

I wouldn't expect the RevGuard to actually successfully make it around the Arabian Peninsula to the Red Sea.
