Suchet attacks Baylen with 8th and 16th corps Giron has 3rd and 4th corps available to defend the town Both are weak three brigade corps and neither have any cavalry. The French have 28000 infantry, 2000 cavalry and 60 guns The Spanish have 28000 infantry and 60 guns Despite this the Spanish put up a determined defence They hold half of the town until nightfall The French lose 2600 casualties and three brigades in rout The Spanish lose 8400 casualties and five brigades in rout link |
