As some will know, I have been creating a Jacobite Rebellion set up. I have completed my Jacobite Army, and tomorrow will finish the last British unit involved in the major battles. I will then finish off a few small units of the British Army who took part in minor actions or sieges.

One of these is 64th (Loudoun's) Highlanders. I had made four companies of them, since that was their strength at Prestonpans, when those companies were capured, with many joining the Jacobite Army. The Regiment was reconstituted and took part in Lord Loudoun's operations north of Inverness in late 1745 and early 1746.

I needed to decide how much more of this battalion to create, so was reading up their history. I then realised that after Culloden, the complete 64th (Loudoun's) Highlanders, reinforced to over 1,000 men, took part in the Siege of Bergen op Zoom in 1747.

I was planning to expand into the War of Austrian Succession anyway, and had planned various French, Dutch, Hanoverian and Austrian units, to allow me to recreate Dettingen, Fontenoy, Roccoux and Laufeldt. I had not thought of Bergen op Zoom before, but have created suitable fortress and siege works so could model that siege. I therefore read up a bit more about it.

Interestingly, I realised that not only did 64th (Loudoun's) Highlanders take part in a major action as part of the siege, but two of the nine Dutch battalions defending the city centre were Scots Regiments of the Dutch Army (Colyear and Majoribanks). Furthermore, one of the Regiments of the French Army at that siege was the Royal Ecossais, reformed after their return from Scotland.

So we have Scots Regiments of the British, French and Dutch Armies all taking part in that siege.
