We followed Fridays 1940 France game with a late 60's game over the same terrain with the Russians breaking into Northern France, very different outcome, full report and OOB on the blog:

The victory salute was not premature at all.

Very good AAR.It's not often that we see the French side in coldwar battles and it makes me want to dig out my 1/300th French force and do some battling myself. I find that the french AFVs have a unique character in this era with a multitude of unusual stuff. Also with the T55s and T62 the Russkies are not so super-tanked up. Thanks Roger.

Yes interesting. The French are often forgotten in the cold war. Probably because they pulled out of the military aspects of NATO and just like to be difficult.

Nukes, need to have nukes as the French had stated that any attack on French soil would be responded to with everything in the French arsenal.

Major Mike is right. French tactical doctrine called for using tactical nukes on German soil before the Soviets got to the French border. When I was at VII Hq in the 1980s, this was a major concern for those of us in the G shops.

To be honest Nukes might have ended up being the only way I could have won this one. The models are lovely and just different enough, I find I ma not too taken with the plain Russians but the British and French in particular are veyr nice indeed.
