So yet another day of RPGing in the library.
Where the arbiter of rule questions is yours truly.

Teen DM (calling from table): "Mr. Howard, what's the range of a longbow? I think it's 120 feet."
Me: "No, it's more than that. Where are you shooting; indoors or outdoors?"
T DM: "Outdoors."
Me: "I don't recall the numbers in the rules, but outdoors a longbow can reach 400 yards."
T DM: "Oh, okay. I guess they can shoot at someone above them in a tree."
Yeah, pretty much.

T DM: "Mr. Howard, how does it handle the Reflex trait in 5th edition?"
Me: "The what?"
T DM: "He wants to punch somebody who sneaked up and startled him."
Me: "Well, I don't know. That's probably up to you."
T DM (to player): "Roll a d20."
Player: "It's a 1."
Which pretty much handled that question, no matter what the actual rule is.

A player decides to use the Command spell on a target in a tree.
He cries "FALL!"
I (overhearing) look around and say, "Yes, it is."
(Alas, through the DM liked my joke, he let the command be interpreted as a verb. Kids these days just don't have the party-killing instinct. wink)

How many kids are in the group?

10 total in two groups (playing simultaneously in the same room!)

That's a nice turn out. I'm glad your library lets the kids get together and game.

We encourage it! I host an Introduction to D&D program every summer, which always has a wait list. Our groups have spawned from that, and I know others have continued from it that meet at local homes and schools. It's been great to watch the friendships form and grow, just as mine did at that age. The only change from my era is that the majority of our players are girls!
