Can anyone identify the APCs seen in pictures appearing of the Zimbabwe National Army in Harare?

Whatever it is, you can always rely on the press to call it a "tank." As in the linked article.

kabrank15 Nov 2017 9:52 a.m. PST

Hi All

Actually probably Type 85 which was the export APC evolved into the Type 89 use by Chinese forces, which was then evolved into the current production Type 90

See Here:-

I'm in favor of "Tanky McTankface".

If they said it was a tank, then it WAS a tank! If they are so right about everything else, then there's no doubt that they must be right about this also.

Who are you to argue with our fair and knowledgeable news people?

Most of Zimbabwe's armor is Chinese or former Warsaw Pact exports, with some South African stuff thrown in for flavor.

I'm guessing that was the entire motor-pool of runners right there on the screen in a couple of shots. No doubt another dozen back in the shop up on hoists, but everything that started and ran they sent out. Love the media trying to identify the Engineers Armoured Recovery Vehicle in one of the stills!!

Caedite Eos16 Nov 2017 3:27 a.m. PST

It's armored, tracked and it's got a gun. It's a tank in all the ways that matter when it's on the street in a coup.
