Does anyone know where I can find a time line of Naval battles both at sea and riverine and the participants of each battle. ? My GoogleFu is weak and Wiki is not that good either

"History of War at Sea: An Atlas and Chronology of Conflict at Sea from Earliest Times to the Present," by Helmut Pemsel (Annapolis, Maryland: U.S. Naval Institute Press, 1979).

The descriptions of battles are very short, so it needs to be used in conjunction with other works that give a fuller narrative.

Thanks Attila. Does that cover river battles ?

Maybe some of the most important river battles, but not necessarily every one. And you are welcome.

Wiki is not that good

Why not? The Wiki list has hundreds of entries, most of which only scholars will have heard of. Seems to be pretty much what you're looking for.

From the link you used. Thus is also the link i refered to as being Not very helpfull

1854 August & September – British-French attack on Petropavlovsk (details)
1862 March 8 and 9 Hampton Roads – First battle between ironclad warships
1864 February Eckernfjorde – Danish ships defeated by Prussia

According to this there was only one actual naval battle in 1862..
But thank you… I have invested in a reference book on the ACW naval battles.

1982 seems to have been a quiet year for naval activity according to that Wiki list :)
