This past weekend presented a huge Naval Thunder game based on the Battle of Samar with over 60 ships from the historical OoB.

The "what if" is we introduced Task Force 34.
Scenario went very well and resulted in some epic naval gaming.

Full report with pics.

My apologies for the double post appears to be a glitch.

Looks interesting; Glad people had fun.

Highlights the too much intelligence and complete coordination aspect of Naval Miniature gaming; No ability to reflect the uncertainty and hesitancy in the face of the (below the games resolution) continuous air and surface torpedo attack "threats" from the Taffy.

How many players?

(I may get to attend next year)

Panfilov,

we had 12 players signed up and added 1 or 2 more. Actually there were Limited Air and many Torpedo attacks.

The Air was home rule. Taffy 3 commander was given a random amount of planes each turn (Combination of fighters and Avengers) to represent the harassing ASW planes that Taffy 3 had. if a squadron was designated to the IJN Ship it took away all secondary batteries for the turn. Fighters rolled 3 dice and on a hit(roll of 10) that ship suffered +1 to Fire control for the turn. Avengers rolled 4 dice, on a hit the affected ship rolled on the superficial critical hit table. I controlled how many planes they were given usually between 3-5 with a coupe turns of none.

Worked rather well and prevented Taffy 3 from being obliterated by secondary batteries before TF 34 arrived.

The Affect was that the IJN players were drawn into the pursuit of Taffy3 and getting toward the Landing as they did not know when or where TF 34 might come from.

When TF 34 arrived they were given change of mission forcing the brawl that ensued.

Although as a Japanese player I didn't like the air rule, it worked slick and I think accurately reflected the harassing attacks. I may "borrow" the idea myself someday. ;-)
