I was looking at early Civil War uniforms, and I particularly like the Cadet Grey of the 7th New State Militia. Others have asked about Cadet Grey before, but the most common answers are uninformatively generic. Painters who have achieved a correct Cadet Gray color on their minis never leave their paint notes on their blogs, so I can't shamelessly copy their methods! I've tried several colors, such as Vallejo's Blue Grey Pale and Luftwaffe Uniform, and Confederate Grey from Foundry; none really seem to work. Does anyone have a specific paint color or mix for Cadet Gray? Here's several pics for that seems closest to me (they are West Point Cadets, but it's the same color I believe):

There seems to be several version of cadet gray: link I have done mine with the Lt gray primer with then a dark blue wash which highlights by darkening the creases in the figure but also gives the darker blue grey hue. MG |

Check out "Military Grey" from Reaper's HD paint range. |

marshallGreg: Thank for the link; I've referenced Adolphus before, since he seems to be a gold mine on the subject of Confederate uniforms. I was thinking of what he calls "light Cadet Gray." Your method sounds interesting: which light grey paint and dark blue wash did you use? Extrabio1947: Excellent! I'll try to procure some. Where do you get Reaper HD paints? |

Extrabio1947: I'm still experimenting, but I think the Military Grey is rather dark; know any other colors that might be the same hue, but lighter in tone? |

In case anyone still cares after so long…I'm using Vallejo Game Color Sombre Grey. Looks good enough |
