Let me try again. I posted this earlier, but the Bug confused it with a New Zealand War message. Now it has gone completely, without any explanation.

Basically this picture appeared on a website entitled "A photo from…Amsterdam on Liberation day"

I immediately thought this was some Dutch Neo Nazi thing, but far from it, it is largely to do with mourning those lost in the Holocaust locally. If I had any access to such social media as Facebook, Twitter etc I would tell the poor woman who created this, all of two years ago.

I think it is unlikely that any of these are commanded by Monty or Patton and the author may be no expert on Uniformology. My wife spotted it instantly though and even knew they were not just German, but Waffen SS.

That is an unfortunate error. I've sent her a message though surely somebody would have spotted it before now?

The date is even on the photo!

Kind of hard to miss the Waffen SS licence plate, even if you are not good with uniforms.

And the date – May 1940.

Interestingly, the woman running up to the car looks a lot like the actress in Band Of Brothers who gets dragged off, stripped and shaved, mainly because of the hair style and dress.

Well the page seens to be gone now. I had sent a message via facebook to the effect that those were Nazis in the picture. I see there is a message waiting but with extraordinary bad timing Facebook is now insisting I install their Messenger App, but having read the Permission Details, I don't think I'll ever be doing that. Which means the waiting message will go un-read, whoever sent it.

That is just why I did not respond personally. Facebook and most social media I regard with scepticism and caution. So glad she found out and I do hope she was not offended!

and really I do that "the actress in Band Of Brothers who gets dragged off, stripped and shaved, mainly because of the hair style and dress." is a bit much. We have all committed fashion errors, especially in the 80s. ………that is no justification for…….

That is not what he meant…
