Several years ago I wrote Santa Anna Rules (the tactical version, not the skirmish version) which has some interesting aspects and does a pretty good job representing the period. The explicit representation of stragglers and morale without morale checks is very different, but the rules flow nicely. They are available from Wargames Vault and maybe On Military Matters. I think Regimental Fire and Fury is used for the MAW period. |

The Rampant Colonialism that I publish is perfectly suited for this period: link A few details about the game: link |

I ditto surdu2005. His rules are the best for the TR/MW at both levels. |

If by "Battalion level" you mean the smallest unit of multiple bases, "Gone To See The Elephant" is now at the printers and will be ready for delivery before the end of the month. You can read much more about the system and what the book offers via this link It costs you nothing to take a look! TVAG |

piquetwargames.com I use Field of Battle 2 by Brent Oman. You can adjust the combat and defense numbers and card decks so no two games are alike. I helped Brent playtest Field of Battle 2. John |

I second Field of Battle II! An outstanding tactical set of rules where a unit equals a battalion. The card deck can be set for any conflict along with the period rules Brent has created. Buy only one set of rules. The army lists are in there. They cover an overview of many Wars. They give you Command ratings, troop quality for Cavalry, Infantry and artillery along with formations used and more. Flexible basing for any scale. I have been playing them for years now. We love them! Thanks, John |

I would recommend Black Powder Rules. Hope it helps. As always, comments are appreciated. Take care Andy |

Our group uses traditional Piquet, and for our Mexican American War games we use the Hallowed Ground historical supplement. I've played a few solo test games, and then earlier this year we played our first live two-player game with my MAW collection! There is a Battle Report at Eric Burgess' Din of Battle blog site link The photos for the second half of the report didn't load, but there are photos for the first half of the action, and the narrative for the rest of the game, sort of like reading a newspaper account back in Washington DC a month after the battle occurred! It was grand battle and we really enjoy the ebb and flow provided by traditional Piquet-Hallowed Ground. All the best, Jan |

I have used Regimental Fire & Fury for many years using a QRS written by Rich specifically for the MAW. I believe they may be downloaded from the F & F site. |
