Some quite interesting sketches of these here from a book first published in 1867. link I've seen the general arrangements of the mill before, but I've not seen the Charleroi bridge that I can recall. I am not sure how accurate it is but the drawing of La Haye Sainte is not bad, for comparison: link |

I tried to model the bridge at Charleroi recently TMP link and did much research on line. Many photos of the replacement bridge from the 1820s, which was finally demolished when the river was actually diverted. The site is now under a main road! imageshack.com/a/77Bl/1 |

Are those marins and genie supporting that attack? And Liam – how does that pic compare to your research? |

Yep. Marins and Genie were in the vanguard and ordered personally by Napoleon to clear the obstacle off the bridge. Whether under any fire and opposed is questioned. The style of the bridge shown is right for the region and for something that was 17th century as I recall (it was enlarged in 1716, but no idea when first built), but the Sambre is not as wide as suggested. I suspect the rebuilt bridge (1826), seen in all the photos, used the original foundations, so three arches max. Meant to add a link to an earlier modelling in a Wargame. They also used Gringos40 figures for the French and produced wonderful scenery. link |
