*I double posted, then deleted both! oops* I want to have a simple Attack/Defense mechanism for combat. Would 3 attack dice and 3 defense dice work in this configuaration? Attack dice – 4 Axes (hits), 2 blank sides (miss) Defense dice – 4 Shields (blocks), 2 blank sides (miss) So for instance a Warrior might have an attack of 2 attack dice, VS say a goblin with 1 defense dice. Trying to keep this fairly simple. There will also be battle cards that add to combat. |

I'm not a fan of "special" dice. Just have attack dice hit on 3+ and defence dice block on 3+. It also means you can vary the value if you wish depending on the troop type. |

As far as special dice do you mean dice with icons/images on them? Custom I guess ;) So workers in the game would not be able to attack, maybe they should be able to defend though. Warriors would be able to attack with 2 dice, defend with 2. A normal (lower) enemy would attack with 1 attack die and defend with 1. |

Your idea seems reasonable to me. I'd like to see the math or probabilities table of hits and miss. Or you can develop empirical date (i.e. play test) and see if the results of the rolls is what you are looking for in your game. p.s. I like icons/images on the dice for this reason: When you see the icon/image you immediately know the result without having to interpret what the numbers on the dice mean. It's more intuitive and takes one less step for your brain to process the information your eyes are seeing. |

I tried this on Tabletop Sim and it seemed to work out pretty well. Now I have to make the custom dice ;) |
