I'm looking for 1890's era British for the Sudan. I already have Two Dragons and Minifigs and am seriously considering Blue Moon figures. How do they compare size-wise? I have several manufacturers figures for Sudanese and as they are densely based, height doesn't seem to be an issue, but the British are based a bit more uniformly so major height differences may be too glaring. All opinions are welcome and many thanks in advance, |

Blue Moon are considerably larger, much more 18mm than 15. |

Rats, and they looked so good. Thanks. Any suggestions for other ranges? |

There is now a US based distributor for Essex Miniatures. They fit in height -wise with Minifigs; and Essex does a dedicated Sudan range. Link: cbminis.com |

Peter Pig also has a dedicated Sudan War range: peterpig.co.uk/colonial.html The Pig figures fit well with Essex figures-I have both in my Egyptian units-and have a good deal of variety and character. |

The Peter Pig range is great |

As Dennis says Peter Pig figures fit well with Essex and at least height wise they are compatible with Minifigs although the latter are slightly less chunky. |

Peter pig fantastic range should work well with your current figures. |

Many, many thanks to all! I second Peter Pig as well. I've bookmarked the Essex site as well. While it is 1882 and not 1898-a little Khaki paint in 15mm should solve the problem. Much appreciation to all who replied. |

For 1890s British look at Boer War and NW Frontier ranges. |

I have the Blue Moon Ansar Command. They fit really well with my Minifigs. Peter Pig also fit well with Minifigs and Two Dragons. Another manufacturer whose 15mm Sudan fits perfectly with Minifigs is Lancashire. Actually some of my favourites link link I don't think Essex mix well as they are quite stocky . Very different |

Never heard of Lanashire-they look pretty good. I agree with Boer war but searches seem just to turn up the Boers. Then again, if I were a good searcher, this post would not have been made….. |

Stone Mountain Miniatures here in the states has a Sudan range – and Zulu and French and Indian War. Older figures but paint and play just fine. They will mix fine with you existing ranges. And there is nothing wrong with mixing larger ranges like Blue Moon with other ranges, just in separate units. They are big but they can work with mid-sized ranges like Essex and Minifigs. They would Tower over Peter Pig, though. Actually, I guess all but the Blue Moon ranges are older now. I mix with abandon for variety. We are not creating works of art, we are playing games. (Well, okay, there are a few painters whose work is art.) |

I agree. The British problem is that I've just started to assemble the units. My gaming buddy moved out of state and my Mahdists were without opponents. The Mahdists run the gamut -Stone Mountain,Essex, 2 dragons, Minifigs, Peter Pig etc. 30 years worth of odd buys. …no Englishmen. It's so much fun to unpack and re-base all those old memories. |
