"Since domestic life is currently a bit unpredictable (as a result of the Contesse being engaged pretty much full-time getting her mother settled in a new home, in another town – a story for another time – in the pub, for preference), I've been watching DVDs late in the evenings for the last week or two…." Armand – once again you have quoted from my blog without permission – I don't really mind, but if any TMP member sees fit to pass comment on my domestic situation I shall really not be happy, and I'll complain to the moderators. Regards – Tony |

Sorry for that my friend… I would take note to not post nothing for you anymore… Sad… because I love it!! (smile) Amicalement Armand |

I would never had found this without Armand pointing it out. It is well worth a read and much enjoyed |

If you choose to broadcast your private life on a public blog you can hardly complain if others decide to comment on it? |
Dave Jackson | 14 Oct 2017 5:41 a.m. PST |
Tango, you should take note not to post it for anyone. Ok, I usually refrain from commenting on this type of situation, but no longer. First off, anyone who posts personal details on a public blog risks having people comment. If you don't want comment, don't post it. Wrt Tango, don't quote lengthy passages from the blog, post the link and post YOUR OWN OBSERVATIONS about the interesting things in the blog. I get annoyed at you quoting at length something I can read when I go to the blog. You never really post your own ideas about whatever you are linking to. You also need to do a bit better job censoring your posts…..you are a shot-gun and never really consider anyone's thoughts about how much you post or whether you post something someone just posted not a 1/2 hr before you. Now, having said that, I do find a lot of what you post interesting encountering links I wouldn't have stumbled on myself. But, surely you can post your own thoughts and not just quote from the blog. Learn from your errors. |
COL Scott ret | 14 Oct 2017 8:54 a.m. PST |
Max, you did post this on a public blog- however any TMPer who would comment on personal stuff when you had such good info on the movies is a cad and not worth a second thought. I am glad that this was posted here or I would never have seen this. |
deadhead | 14 Oct 2017 9:23 a.m. PST |
I think Dave Jackson's comment applies way beyond just Tango and is very well made. There is such a thing as "added value" and the best postings take a bit more effort. Someone saying they like something you have posted is, of course, very gratifying. Saying what you like about it, what you would have done differently, posing a question, adding some info, highlighting and correcting any errors….they are the best postings. Yes indeed. Put something into it. |

Gentlemen – if anyone visits my blog and enjoys it them I'm delighted, of course; if anyone submits a comment to my blog which I find inappropriate then I can refuse to publish it and everything is fine. The blog does not reveal who I really am (apart from being a Napoleonic war hero, of course) and the personal content is normally well insulated, but I have had experiences in the past when stuff which I had written was suddenly a matter of public view – mostly as a result of Armand splashing it around here, and sometimes this has become very uncomfortable. In fact, I couldn't really care less, but there is a principle of respecting privacy in there – can't quite put my finger on it. If I write something, I don't expect some unconnected third party to be dropping it as leaflets from an aeroplane. Anyway – thanks, and enjoy the rest of your weekend… |

Stop crying and quit posting private information on a public website if you don't want people reading it. Geez Louise. It was very good by the way. |

+1 choc If you post in public accept it. Your blog is out there. If you want secrets don't post it. Just talk to your friends |

And crikey. Having read the blog now. Well, what a storm in a teacup. Sad days indeed |

Again, the issue of "without permission" arises. |

You don't need permission. |
Royal Marine | 14 Oct 2017 3:19 p.m. PST |
If it is posted in public it is not private! That is the rules of social media. |
Winston Smith | 14 Oct 2017 7:41 p.m. PST |
You don't need permission. You're wrong. Remember the very recent thread on Plagiarism? Simply put, plagiarism is copying without permission. Attribution, link, etc are irrelevant. Permission IS required. |
Winston Smith | 14 Oct 2017 7:48 p.m. PST |
If it is posted in public it is not private! That is the rules of social media. And when did "the rules of social media" take precedence over law? Where are those "rules" posted and codified? Permission IS needed to copy, and if denied this thread must be taken down. Go back in the archives on TMP. Two copyright attorneys, nycjadie and Condottiero have commented on this. I saw an old thread on this just a week ago. No. I didn't save a link, but it was easy to find. Do an Author search. |
Winston Smith | 14 Oct 2017 7:52 p.m. PST |
But, hey Bill. This is your site, you can allow what you want. I'm just warning you. That's all. The law is not on your side. |

I understand that "Plagiarism" was a penalty to me because I forget to inform the link…not because what I have text in there… I'm wrong?… I understand "Maximilien" is afrait of some possible negative comments about something he did/wrote from people here… and that he could managed it much better in his own site… That's why I inform him that in the future… I'm not going to post his stuff anymore… And I insist… it's sad because I loved his site and he didn't post his stuff here… Amicalement Armand

What I post here and what I write about on my personal blog is all about my miniature wargaming hobby. I share very little personal information. Not because I lead a life of danger and excitement, but because almost nothing in my personal life impacts my miniatures hobby in any meaningful way. I guess if you post something online, you run the risk of people reading it and commenting on it. Armand's posting practices seem at times to make up most of the discussion on these forums. I fall into the "If I like it I'll read it and I'll ignore the rest" camp. That being said, attribution may or may not be legally required in a case like this, but it's certainly good manners and best practice to provide citation of another's work. Armand, I love ya like a brother from an Argintinian mother I never knew I had, but dude…you gotta start giving credit. I've seen you do it before. It's not hard to do. Maximilian, I liked the post. Great stuff. Since I am not a Napoleonic player (and likely never will be), I wouldn't have found it without Armand's pointing finger. But I do like movies, and I didn't know about most of these. I'll check them out! |

understand that "Plagiarism" was a penalty to me because I forget to inform the link…not because what I have text in there… I'm wrong?… No, it was because you copied and pasted the entire article too. And I insist… it's sad because I loved his site and he didn't post his stuff here… It's pretty clear that he doesn't want his stuff posting here, regardless of what you think about that. |

I write a blog and I have for ten years. I love it when people quote a bit or copy a couple pictures, especially when they provide a link. My hits go way up every time Tango posts about my blog. If I did not want people to read about it, I would not post it on my blog. I like Tango and he provides a lot of links to things I enjoy and a few I don't care about. You take the wheat with the chaff. I would like to read about what Tango thinks about a picture of a girl, or a comment on a blog. I want more Tango, not less. I am not sure I would know a Blog from a Tweet or a Facebook thing or a Website……..this sort of social media is a complete mystery to me. But I do know that if something is in the public domain, put there by oneself, one can hardly complain. Provided the source is attributed, there can be no suggestion of plagiarism. This is a quote, which attracts folk to a source of information that, presumably, one has created in order for it to be read by others. This is surely one of the daftest message threads in ages. The Blog itself is very well written and carries much useful information and comment. I read the whole thing. Views do vary about Tango, but I agree that he contributes far more than he annoys. Don't worry, I suspect you will get much more Tango. He is irrepressible! |
Maximilien S Foy | 18 Oct 2017 3:24 p.m. PST |
Let's be quite clear here – I appreciate the supportive comments, but I have not whinged here, there is nothing on my blog which is overly private or which I wish to conceal. In short, it isn't really me making the fuss, if there is one. The issue of plagiarism is one which cannot be glossed over – it will come back and bite us all – but I'm not much bothered about that either. The Tango problem, for me, is that he simply lifts stuff, without explanation, and then some of the responses (from TMP) are out of context, uninvited, inappropriate. My gripe is merely that I've previously requested him not to do this, or at least let me know if he does it, so I can be a little prepared. It is entirely a question of good manners, but it certainly doesn't bother me, since I do not use, and rarely visit, TMP. It's OK – I've met rude people before. |
