Bill…how will this work in regards to our current membership. IE., will the time be tacked on and will there be some sort of paperwork with times and dates of the extended membership running out? I'll spring for a year, as long as due dilligence on your side of the equation is forthcoming in regards to remaining time/funds left in a members current status. |

How about adding one "Get out of Jail Free" card with the new membership package? |
Editor in Chief Bill | 12 Oct 2017 8:17 a.m. PST |
Won't affect your current membership at all. |

So, it will just extend from when my current membership ends in??? and go from there…correct? |

I must say that I am distressed to find that my new thread in this board on the topic of the coming TMP price rise, asking some questions and inviting feedback from other members, pre-dating this thread, has disappeared. What is the reason for that? |

50% rise seems a huge jump. |

And NO follow up from Dear Editor… |

I'm still wondering about the signal lack of response from other TMPers -- assuming that open discussion isn't being stifled by Ye Editor. To reiterate, as best I can: this seems not only an abrupt price hike, but substantial. (50%?? Really?) What in return, may I ask, are we getting? A more functional website? Less glitchery? 50% more features and functionality? Or is this just to boost profit margins? I have to think this is an ominous sign of what's to come, esp. in view of staff layoffs in the past year. |

I was due to renew my membership in February next year, so I did it now. I, too, think a single price hike of 50% will make me wary of renewing next time. |

I'm ok with the price of a Supporting membership going up. My first year was a gift from a generous Editor. And now, thanks to my silly Poll Suggestions, I'm set until 2022, and so is the OFM. Do, I haven't paid a dime. But seriously… How much does it cost? I've always said that wargamers are the cheapest hobbyists on the face of the earth. Would *I* pay it? Ummmmmmmmmm….. I plead the 5th. |
Bellbottom | 14 Oct 2017 3:55 p.m. PST |
I just renewed for 6 months. I'll have to think hard about renewing again. Winston Smith, maybe your freebees are the reason us paying customers are having our subscriptions increased? What do you have to do to get a free subscription?, and what do the Poll Suggestions have to do with it? |
piper909 | 14 Oct 2017 10:58 p.m. PST |
I am not challenging the need for a price hike -- but the amount, and the limited warning or discussion? A 50% hike is a substantial percentage. Especially in light of recent TMP member controversies and website function problems. If I belonged to a private club and there was a move to increase dues by 50%, I would politely inquire the reason for the request and what the host intended to do with this increase in funds. Otherwise, we are left feeling like serfs faced with an arbitrary rent increase from the landlord. |

Correct I must say that I am distressed to find that my new thread in this board on the topic of the coming TMP price rise, asking some questions and inviting feedback from other members, pre-dating this thread, has disappeared. What is the reason for that? Corrupted on the server, had to be deleted. Feel free to repost. And NO follow up from Dear Editor… I've been celebrating my birthday and slacking off… |

One of my favorite lines from "The Right Stuff" : "No bucks, No Buck Rogers !" I would think anyone in a business of any kind has to make some profit to stay in business. Now as I have said before, Bill & I don't always agree, see eye to eye, etc. But I get it. Money = profit = staying in biz … My Biz/Eco teachers would be so proud I still remembered that ! |

@ piper909, You always have the option of becoming a non supporting member. I will have to give this a lot of thought when my membership comes up for renewal. I'm faced with some things I'm going to have to give up and this is in the mix. |
piper909 | 15 Oct 2017 12:00 p.m. PST |
I will renew my membership for a while, before rates go up, because I do have some things I'd like to list for sale. But after that, I will have to reconsider the matter. I've been a supporting member for many years, but maybe the time has come to join the freeloaders. |
kcabai | 24 Oct 2017 6:24 a.m. PST |
I will give this some thought. |
