Mr Yan, 82, who was evacuated along with seven family members, applauded the bomb disposal effort.

"I was always worried the bombs might explode and hurt my grandchildren," he said.

The two CS gas bombs were dropped on Korki village in 1971 but did not explode, so locals buried them to prevent the chemicals from leaking out.
