bayonet strength has been down for a while. Any news?
Are there any comparable sites? yes I know about the archive. Specifically I am looking for russian company orbats which I am having some trouble finding.

I dont think even when it was up and running there were any Russian orbats.
A starting point may be here with GHQ. Here is their take on a Soviet Motorized Rifle battalion in 1941:

But there aren't any Russian lists

What type of company and (more importantly) when?

Starfury Rider03 Oct 2017 4:14 a.m. PST

I am working on it, honest! I've got a new host as a motivator to get something back up online. It's taken me w while to come up with a 'one size fits all' format for the expanded detail I want to go with this time. Currently working through the German Inf Regt 1937-42, because if I can do that one the others are a breeze.

The Red Army will be reappearing, what info are you after in the meantime?

Gary,

The site is a great resource and must be a lot of work. Thank you very much for what you do.

Anyone interested in the Zaloga Red Army Handbook let me know, I've got one for sale. No reasonable offer refused.

Well you've probably got a choice of two formats for the Rifle Bns of the Rifle Regts. The Mar42 organisation concentrated the 50-mm and 82-mm mortars in a separate Mortar Bn within the Rifle Regt, and left the Rifle Bns with;

Bn HQ (4 officers, 1 political officer)
Signal Pl (1 officer, 16 men)
Supply Pl (1 officer, 15 men)
Medical Pl (1 WO, 6 men)

Atk Rifle Coy (4 officers, 1 political officer, 43 men) – divided into two Pls, each of four Squads, with two atk rifles per 5 man Squad, total 16 for the Coy.

MG Coy (5 officers, 1 political officer, 85 men) – in three Pls of four HMGs each (7 men per MG), total 12 HMGs for the Coy.

Three Rifle Coys, each 5 officers, 1 political officer, 169 men. Coy HQ 2 officers, 1 political officer, 2 Sgts, 2 snipers, 1 runner. Coy Medical Squad 5 men. Three Rifle Pls, each with 1 officer, 1 Pl Sgt, 1 runner and 3 snipers in Pl HQ. Four Squads per Pl, 12 men each. Each Pl only authorised 3 SMGs and 3 LMGs, so not enough for one of each per Squad.

Total Bn 30 officers, 6 political officers, 1 WO, 672 men.

A revised Regt was authorised Jul42, that returned the mortars to Bn level.

Bn HQ (3 officers, 1 political officer)
Signal Pl (1 officer, 10 men)
Supply Pl (1 officer, 11 men)
Medical Pl (1 WO, 4 men)

Atk Rifle Pl (1 officers, 22 men) – divided into three Squads, each with 7 men and three atk rifles.

MG Coy (5 officers, 1 political officer, 52 men) – in three Pls of three HMGs each (5 men per MG), total 9 HMGs for the Coy.

Mortar Coy (5 officers, 1 political officer, 55 men) – in three Pls of three 82-mm mortars each, total nine for the Coy.

Three Rifle Coys, each 5 officers, 1 political officer, 138 men. Coy HQ 2 officers, 1 political officer, 2 Sgts and 1 runner. Coy Medical Squad 5 men. 50-mm Mortar Pl (1 officer, 10 men, three mortars). Three Rifle Pls, each with 1 officer, 1 Pl Sgt, 1 runner and 2 snipers in Pl HQ. Four Squads per Pl, 9 men each. Each Pl now authorised 4 SMGs and 4 LMGs, finally enough for one of each per Squad.

Total Bn 34 officers, 6 political officers, 1 WO, 568 men.

Divisional level recce is the only thing I've got much solid on, and it was pretty much just Rifle Pls, but without LMGs. A previous discussion can be seen here -

Rifle Divisional Sapper Bns were pretty much just two Coys of very lightly equipped troops. No fire support and not much in the way of tools.

I've not seen anything detailed on Naval Infantry, summaries would suggest they were based on Rifle unit organisation, but beefed up somewhat.

I'd go for the reprint, the Red Army companion I think; a previous discussion here had me thinking I'd lost the ability to read and count, but turned out my older copy has been superseded, with another poster quoting from updated different version.
