I've recently resurrected a Sudan Campaign project I started 25+ years ago using Ral Partha and Frontier. Upon inspection of the RP Ansar figures I was reminded/bothered by something once again. They were provided with loose swords and spears, yet every figure was sculpted with a sheathed sword(!). How do those among you who use(d) Ral Partha for the Sudan Campaign approach this situation? Do you give them all spears, or do you give them two swords, etc.? |

Or do you just trim off the hilt of the sheathed sword for those with sword in hand. |

Some got swords and some got spears. I didn't dwell on it past that. |

I agree with 79th. This is one of those things that will likely go unnoticed by everyone but yourself. Give 'em swords and have fun! |

IIRC, TSATF rules give more of an advantage to spear armed Ansar over sword armed Ansar, so I would allow that to guide your decision. As for the two sword thing, I own literally hundreds of RP Ansar and, until you mentioned it, giving some figures two swords has never bothered me. |

Does that mean it bothers you now, haha? I will almost certainly give some of them two swords but it just seems a little odd to me. I wonder what Tom Meier was thinking or how that went down |

Speaking for myself, I tend to see the Ansar as a mass, not individuals, so I don't notice details. Incidentally, from what I've read since starting to play TSATF 30 odd years ago, natives did not move in mass, but tended to spread out. But I am not about to tinker with the rules since they work so well. |

I do half and half for most units and don't remove sword hilts. Since there are three different Ansar figures (by head type) my guess is that Tom Meier was just doing different heads on the same body. For its time that was quite an advance. |

I've ben gaming with those figures for well over 30 years. I probably noticed that once or twice, but never remembered it for more than 5 minutes and was never bothered by it. It's probably a good thing that TSATF doesn't have a melee modifier for figures armed with two swords. I arm them in a mix of spears and swords. Rick |

If it bothers you, clip any scabbard hanging below the tunic, and paint as if it's just a fold in the tunic. But I don't recall being bothered by that. Back when I was painting Ral Partha Ansar, a "normal" TSATF game had hundreds of figures on a side. Such anomalies were ignored, particularly in the small 25mm these were cast in. |

To the warriors i'm giving swords, i'll be painting their hilts white. Problem solved |

The Ral Partha warriors came molded with a sword scabbard on it. I armed them anyway I wished. The weapon in the hand is the one they use. Any one going to Recon in Orlando I will have some Ral Partha British and fuzzies for sale if your interested. |

I noticed this with Peter Pig British Cavalry for the Sudan. Some figures have Carbines and some have swords, but all the separately cast horses have a leather holder with carbine attached to the saddle. |

Nick Pasha – from your posting of 03-23-18, do you still have Ral Partha Britisdh and Fuzzies for sale? Hal (halthingloum@aol.com) |
